Transillumination is employed to study the region of solar-wind transition from subsonic to supersonic flow. Quasars are used as transilluminating sources. Observations were performed in June of 1988 at a wavelength of 2.9 m. Five sources with different heliolatitudes were used. The locations of the internal and external boundaries of the transition region were determined from data on the radial dependence of the angle of radio-wave scattering 2θ(R). A two dimensional map of the transition region was obtained from this.
