The distribution of energetic electrons on the auroral field lines in the magnetosphere of Uranus can develop large anisotropies and a large loss cone. These, in turn, can lead to large-amplitude whistler waves and upper-hybrid waves. Nonlinear currents caused by interaction between these waves can produce radio emissions that are in good agreement with the bursty Uranian kilometric radiation observed by Voyager 2.
