The Medipix-detectors have orginally been developed for X-ray imaging purposes. During the last years, a variety of other applications have appeared, ranging from time-projection chambers, electron microscopy to mass spectrometry. In this contribution we will present different applications for hybrid photon counting pixel detectors namely radiation monitoring, X-ray polarimetry or the detection of optical photons in a hybrid photon detector, which all use either the energy resolved capabilities or the time-resolution of the Timepix. As an application in the core field, we will present a material resolving X-ray imaging method with Medipix2, which has large potential in medical imaging.
