The multimode regime of electromagnetic-disturbance dynamics in the equatorial F-region is investigated in the framework of the Rayleigh-Taylor and gradient-drift instability mechanisms. As a result of intermode interaction, the disturbance is pumped mainly into the first mode in the case of the oscillatory regime. For parameter values that do not provide for the occurrence of the first-mode oscillatory regime, limitation of the growth of positive disturbances can result, followed by an explosive process of 'bubble' formation.
