A theoretical study is presented of various problems relating to the interaction of fast particles with the cosmic plasma in the Galaxy. The analysis is carried out for the propagation of MHD waves with a wavelength exceeding the mean free path of the particles relative to scattering. Conditions under which damping associated with the diffusion of cosmic rays is dominant for magnetoacoustic waves are investigated. Attention is also given to the acceleration of particles during the multiple intersection of a shock front; the acceleration is related to scattering by inhomogeneities on both sides of the front. Finally, the problem of the heating of galactic cosmic rays by the solar wind is investigated.
