Data on high-energy particle pulses in the magnetotail obtained using the interplanetary monitoring satellite IMP-J and the aurora electrojet (AE) index are analyzed. The main characteristics of the pulses are described. The magnetotail is composed of three regions: (1) neutral sheet, (2) low-latitude, and (3) high-latitude. The intensity and acceleration of the high-energy particle pulses, and the correlation between particle pulses and the AE index are examined. It is observed that the average intensity of the particle pulse in the neutral-sheet region is 20 + or - 34/sec, 8 + or - 27/sec for the low-latitude region, and 5 + or - 24/sec for the high-latitude region; and that particle acceleration is limited to a thin layer around the neutral sheet. It is detected that the correlation between the AE index and the particle pulse is 0.59 for the neutral-sheet region, 0.25 for the low-latitude region, and 0.12 for the high-latitude region.
