The evolution of VLF waves in the magnetosphere is strongly influenced by interaction with resonance electrons. The conventional approach to the study of this interaction is to solve the equations of motion and to determine the distribution function of the resonance particles in a given wave field, with allowance for the influence of the particles on the wave. This means that in order to determine the evolution of the wave with allowance for resonance effects, it is necessary to know the structure of the wave. The determination of the wave structure is the objective of the present analysis. It is shown numerically that in the equatorial region, a VLF wave becomes an electrostatic wave. Analytical solutions of the geometrical optics equations are obtained for these conditions.
