We show that, within the framework of suitably chosen approximate effective
actions it is possible to evaluate analytically the string tension, the
spacelike string tension and the deconfinement temperature of (2+1) dimensional
lattice gauge theories. In the case of SU(2) gauge theory our results agree
with those obtained through Montecarlo simulations.
