Cometary plasma and magnetic fields are studied analytically to show that high-amplitude diamagnetic plasma disturbances have some nonlinear solitary vortex-type disturbances. The 2D kinetic description of magnetized plasma flow with mass loading is employed for the analysis, and solitary-vortex-type solutions are superimposed on the plasma flow. Analytical and numerical treatments are presented, and the relationship between the solitary vortex and the averaged plasma-flow parameters is obtained. The analytical results are compared to the results of observations of cometary plasma fields and magnetic fields, and good correlation is noted between the scaling for averaged plasma-flow parameters taken from analytical calculations of vortex dependence and those determined from magnetic field data.
