Solar Wind Quasi-Invariant in Northern and Southern Heliosphere During Cycle 22 and 23. J. Fainberg, V.A. Osherovich and A.G. Grinberg Sunspot numbers (SSN) and sunspot areas have a close proxy in the interplanetary medium, namely, the solar wind quasi-invariant QI=(B2/{8π })/{ρ v2)}, where B is the interpanetary field strength, ρ is the density and v is the the solar wind speed. QI correlates with SSN with a correlation coefficient =0.98 for yearly median values [Osherovich, Fainberg and Stone, 1999; Fainberg, Osherovich and Stone, 2001]. This correlation was established for the period 1971-1999. We focus here on the value of QI for the last 3 years (near the maximum of cycle 23) and compare it with the previous solar maximum. Calculating QI separately for the norhtern and southern heliosphere (at 1 AU), we show that for each hemisphere, QI follows the nothern and southern sunspot areas suggesting a double peak structure for the maximum of cycle 23 similar to the maximum of cycle 22.
