Scientific paper

The authors discuss the 1994 April 14 - 17 energetic (Ep > 30 MeV, Ee > 1.3 MeV) event observed at the Earth polar caps onboard CORONAS-I. It occurred well away from any active region and was not associated with the impulsive flare's manifestations, indicating that these solar flare features are not required for the production of a solar energetic particle (SEP) event. The authors discuss the SEP propagation characteristics. The solar polar crown event of April 14, 1994 is one of the largest scale eruptive events observed by the Yohkoh/SXT.
