It is shown that surface oscillations of the sun with a period of 2 hours, 40 minutes are a weak echo of intense adiabatic oscillations of the solar interior, wherein the lower quadrupole g-mode is excited by thermonuclear energy sources. For the quadrupole g-mode to have a period of 2 hours, 40 minutes and to become sharply attenuated in the solar mantle, it is sufficient for the outer part of the interior to be close convective equilibrium. This quasi-equilibrium of the solar interior may explain the low counting rate of solar neutrinos in chlorine detectors.
