Long-term measurements of the strength of the atmospheric electric field (Ez) near the earth surface at four high-latitude stations are analyzed. Space-time regularities connected with the asymmetry of diurnal variations of Ez are noted, and it is shown that this asymmetry may be connected with electric fields of magnetospheric convection. The response of Ez at high latitudes to solar flares is investigated. It is shown that changes in the atmospheric conductivity profile due to Forbush decreases are not a direct cause of the positive phase of high-latitude Ez disturbances connected with solar flares.
