We consider the influence of the passage of a shock wave on the profiles of lines in its wake. The time dependent equations are solved following a fluid particle which has undergone the shock compression and the profiles of the C IV λ1548.20 and O V λl2l8.35 limes are evaluated. For the steady-state atmosphere, we employ hole model of Pineau des Forêts (1979: Astron. Astrophys. 78,159). Comparison of the computed line profiles with existing observations proves inconclusive and further observations are suggested which would provide a more direct test of the model.
