SIXE, a simple X-ray experiment designed as a subsystem of the MAEX experiment to fly on board the first platform of the Spanish space program MINISAT until 1995, is presented. SIXE's geometrical area can be as large as about 3200 sq cm. SIXE is formed by four identical gas-filled MWPCs in the energy range of 3-50 keV. The continuum sensitivity of SIXE, for a 3-sigma detection in 100,000 s, is about 3 x 10 exp -6 photons/sq cm s keV. SIXE's main scientific goals are to study the short- and long-term spectral and intensity variabilities of a few selected X-ray sources, which are representative of homogeneous classes of cosmic sources, and the behavior of the eventual Fe lines.
