The results of a 17-year recording of field strength at 164 kHz over a distance of 1720 km are presented. The long-term variations of the field correlate negatively with the intensity of cosmic rays and positively with sunspot number. In the mesopause-region under night condition there exists a zone where the influences of various night sources of ionization are mutually compensatory.
