Cluster II, a set of four spacecraft, will be launched this summer to fly around Earth's magnetic poles in a pyramid formation. Cluster II will explore space weather and study how extreme solar activity affects Earth. The spacecraft also will make a three-dimensional map of Earth's magnetosphere. Cluster II's predecessor was destroyed when the booster rocket exploded shortly after lift-off.
