A certain form of an effective gravity action and its related Hamiltonian are algebraically expanded. The Lagrangian is expressed as a sum of the MacDowell-Mansouri terms with a scalar multiplier and the torsion terms with a scalar multiplet factor, and is decomposed into two parts: the self-dual and the anti-self-dual part. A self-dual formulation of the four-dimensional Chamseddine theory is obtained. Its Lagrangian contains a self-dual Brans-Dicke term which is the Ashtekar Lagrangian with a scalar multiplier.
