A two-dimensional theory of axisymmetric accretion about a gravitating mass point is extended to cover outflows as well. Symmetry properties and asymptotic solutions are established which suggest the possibility that outflow and accretion may occur in different regions of the same flow field. Two such mathematical solutions, representing three distinct physical situations, are found by numerical integration. The simplest solution includes an outflow column coupled to an accretion column, with the two columns extending in opposite directions from the mass point. The more complex solution shows two outflow columns extending in opposite directions and coupled to an accretion band whose flow is at right angles to the outflows. This solution may be reversed to give outflow in a band coupled to two accretion columns. Asymptotic and numerical analyses suggest that the solutions displayed are the first in a family of increasingly complex outflow/accretion situations.
