Adaptive Optics: Optical Systems
Scientific paper
The authors propose the reasons for the introduction of a new optical system - selective optics, to which real time selection and utilization over the ideal image formation is employed in optimizing system performance in the presence of random disturbances. Despite of its low efficiency, the selective optics have some advantages: availability, low cost, possible use of moderate precision components such as infrared mirrors, probable combination with adaptive optics by which the systematic errors (low-order errors) due to misalignment, decentering, or defocusing can be corrected.
