An analysis is given of the materials used in industry for the fabrication of metallic mirrors. Present-day physical metallurgical requirements on the basic materials of metallic mirrors are given. A method is investigated for the deposition of a surface vitreous layer of silicon dioxide by electron-beam evaporation in high vacuum and cathode sputtering to produce highly reflecting light-weight mirrors on substrates of D16T and VT1-0 alloys.
