Newly discovered earthquakes in West Antarctica provide the first
documentation of seismicity in the region. The data presented here
indicate that the ice sheet does not suppress seismicity as has been
previously proposed. However, the observed earthquake pattern suggests
the West Antarctic rift system is no longer actively extending.
