Scientific paper

FOC images will be obtained in the UV and visible of galaxies whose
isotropic properties are the same as those of BL Lac objects. A search
will be made for weak unresolved UV nuclei that would be expected if the
relativistic beaming theory of normal BL Lac emission is correct.
Candidate nuclei found this way will be studied with the FOS.
