Magnetic-field saddle points have been observed in the chromosphere and corona. It is shown that the number and arrangement of the saddle points are determined by the number and arrangement of sunspots. All the observed saddles exhibit the property that their asymptotes form a right angle. Nonorthogonality of a saddle can be related to the presence of electric current in the chromosphere or to the singularity of a saddle. It does not follow from the balance conditions that all the saddles must be orthogonal.
