Rocket-borne wavelength scanning interference filter photometers launched from Fort Churchill, Manitoba, in January 1974, are used to supply data on oxygen densities based on mass spectrometer measurements. Attention is given to the volume emission rate ratio of the N2, and its quenching by O2 as a function of temperature dependence. Nightglow emissions are also evaluated. Four reactions leading to auroral oxygen production are analyzed, and it is suggested that energy transfer with ionic recombination across spectral bands at altitudes below 130 km is a prime source.
