The mechanisms of a series of large earthquakes are studied for the foreshock, the mainshock and the two aftershocks utilizing the STS-1 broadband records at station INU approximately 700 km from the epicenters. The lowpass filtered seismograms of these earthquakes demonstrate mutually similar waveforms, in good agreement with those calculated for a known mechanism by an extended reflectivity technique.
