Retardation features of rigid motion, in flat two-dimensional
space-time, are interpreted in terms of a consistent picture of signals.
A similar analysis is adopted to effect a natural transition from rigid
to nonrigid frames for which a degree of rigidity, having a simple
physical meaning, can be defined.
