Optical measurements in the subauroral lower thermosphere in Maimaga (geogr. /ϕ=63N /λ=129.7E) for the period of 1979-1991 and at the mesopause in Yakutsk (/ϕ=62N /λ=129.7E) for 1965-1970 have been used to determine the variability of their temperature regimes in response to strong winter warmings in the polar stratosphere. The analysis of experimental data showed that several days after the maxima of major winter warmings in the polar stratosphere, the temperature decreases at the subauroral mesopause and in the lower thermosphere. The temperature decreases and the time of onset of cooling in these atmospheric layers depends on the warming intensity in the stratosphere.
