The relationship between increases of the Dst field over 1 hr at a relatively quiet level and corresponding variations in the dynamic pressure of the solar wind is examined on the basis of mean hourly values of the Dst index and solar-wind parameters. It is shown that the proportionality factor between these parameters is not constant, but decreases as the dynamic-pressure gradient increases.
