Southworth and Hawkins' (1963) 'D-criterion' of orbital similarity and its modification by Drummond (1979) are here noted to not be equivalent; their differing results are due to the modification of the fourth term of Drummond's D-criterion. While the Drummond criterion is overdependent on eccentricity, that of Southworth and Hawkins is overdependent on perihelion distance. An alternative hybrid discriminant is here proposed.
