The emission mechanism of the observed gamma radiation of active galaxies and quasars is investigated theoretically. A model based on the development of a high-energy EM cascade due to nonthermal relativistic particles in the source regions is proposed and used to interpret published observations of the Seyfert galaxies NGC 4151 and MCG 8-11-11, the quasars 3C 273 and 0241 + 622, and the radio galaxy Cen A (NGC 5128).
