An instance of the excitation of Pi3 pulsations in the auroral zone on
the earth's surface and in a conjugate zone in geostationary orbit is
investigated. It is suggested that the source of the Pi2 pulsations on
the earth's surface may be surface waves on the inner edge of the plasma
sheet.
