Education is a prerequisite to master the challenges of space science and technology. Efforts to understand and control space science and technology are necessarily intertwined with social expressions in the cultures where science and technology is carried out. The United Nations is leading an effort to establish regional Centres for Space Science and Technology Education in major regions on Earth. The status of the establishment of such institutions in Asia and the Pacific, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Western Asia, and Eastern Europe is briefly described in this article.
