The problem of reflection coefficient and the surface amplitude have been studied for a model consisting of (n - 1) layers overlying a semi-infinite half space. The layers and the half space are both assumed to be transversely isotropic and laterally and vertically heterogeneous. Reflection coefficient and the surface amplitude for a two and three layered crustal model have been computed. For a two layered model, graphs have been presented showing the effect of anisotropy, frequency and vertical inhomogeneities on the surface amplitude. For a three layered model, graphs show the effect of frequency and vertical inhomogeneities on the surface amplitude.
