A literature review is carried out on redox processes in metal-silicate systems, initiated by meteorite impacts or in laboratory experiments. Impact experiments with metallic projectiles and silicate targets were shown to produce reduced silicon (Si0, Si(2+)) and aluminum (Al0) as well as oxidized copper (Cu(3+), Cu(2+)), contained in condensed vapor. It was shown that the high temperature environment created as a result of an impact event produces both redox reactions and thermal reduction reactions.
