The New Western Norway Network started operating in November 1984 and a total of 13 stations are now in operation around the North Sea. The new network has improved significantly the detection and location ability and as a result a new clear alignment of epicentres is seen northeast of Bergen. In the first 12 months of operation, 109 seismic disturbances were located in the North Sea, which is about four times more disturbances/time unit than detected before the installation of the new network. Tests using airgun shots indicate that near the coast the absolute accuracy of hypocentral locations is about 2-5 km.
