Some of the important recent contributions made by research workers in the field of solar-terrestrial physics are described. Significant advances have taken place in recent years in understanding complex coupling processes in the transfer of energy from the sun to the earth's environment via interplanetary medium, magnetosphere, ionosphere, and thermosphere to the middle atmosphere. The importance of intensifying ground-based and space-borne techniques of monitoring solar activity in the time frame of Solar-Terrestrial Energy Program (1990-95) is emphasized.
