A set of YAP:Ce3+ and LuYAP:Ce3+ crystals were submitted to γ irradiation at the 60Co "Calliope" radioisotope source, placed in the Research Centre ENEA-Casaccia, in order to investigate their radiation hardness. The radiation induced behavior of the analyzed samples turned out to be strongly dependent on the doping and the growth conditions of crystals. In addition, the similarities of the radiation induced color center distributions of the two kinds of analyzed crystals allow the application of the YAP energy level diagram also to LuYAP crystal.
