Nuclear Reactions, Nucleosynthesis: Heavy Elements
Scientific paper
The nucleosynthesis of elements heavier than iron occurs mainly by neutron capture in the s- and r-process. In the course of an investigation program on all relevant (α, n)-reactions, the three possible neutron sources 21Ne(α, n)24Mg, 17O(α, n)20 Ne and 18O(α, n)21Ne have been investigated experimentally within the present limits of sensitivity (10-10barn). Cross sections, resonance parameters, S-factors and reaction rates have been deduced from these measurements.
