Radio astronomers can now use the technique of radio interferometry to produce images of distant galaxies with a resolution exceeding that achieved by the largest optical telescopes. This article describes an experiment to demonstrate radio interferometry in the classroom and also presents details of radio telescopes constructed by sixth-form students for making interferometric studies of the Sun.
