Sobolev's method is used to obtain an approximate solution to the equation of radiative transfer in a spherical atmosphere with an orthotropic nucleus and a power law of optical density distribution in the atmosphere under illumination by a plane-parallel radiation flux. It is noted that the solution can be used to estimate cometary photometric characteristics in cases when it is necessary to take multiple light scattering into account. The results are pertinent to the study of Comet Halley.
