The clustering of quasars and absorption line clouds has been analysed from the viewpoint of structure formation in the universe. It is found that the features of quasar clustering are quite different from those of galaxies. Specifically, the analysis indicates: (1) quasar clustering is much weaker than in galaxies; (2) large scale structures, such as superclusters, probably formed after the epoch z ≡ 2; (3) the amplitute of the total density inhomogeneity seems to be less than that of galaxy distribution by at least a factor of 3 - 5 (in a Ω = 1 universe); (4) the clustering of Ly α absorption clouds is also different from that of galaxies.
