An overview of quantum gravity theory is presented. The contributions of special relativity, general relativity, and quantum mechanics to quantum gravity are discussed, emphasizing the curvature of spacetime, different kinds of vacua, particle production, and the interrelations between these. The nature of spacetime at Planckian wavelengths and the possibility of spacetime consisting of more than four dimensions are considered.
