We generalise here earlier results on quantum effects in the vicinity of a spacetime singularity to a general class of spacetimes where the metric coefficients are arbitrary functions of the space and time coordinates. It is shown that the quantum uncertainty continues to diverge at the singularity provided the focusing effects are strong enough near the classically singular epoch. This situation allows for the non-classical, non-singular states to occur with finite probability.
