Allowance for the quantum character of material fields and weak gravitational waves on the background of the classical metric of cosmological models results in two principal effects: vacuum polarization and particle production. The first of the effects may be taken into account qualitatively by introducing into the Lagrangian density of the gravitational field an additional term of the type A + BR-squared + CR-squared 1n absolute value of R/R0; the second effect can be accounted for by prescribing a local rate of particle (graviton) production which is proportional to the square of the scalar curvature R-squared. It is shown that consideration of the combined effect of these phenomena on the evolution of a homogeneous anisotropic metric of the first Bianchi type removes the Einstein singularities.
