Dark Matter: Elliptical Galaxies, Dark Matter: Galaxy Formation
Scientific paper
Proposes a mechanism for efficient star formation during the formation of an elliptical galaxy, which has been a well-known puzzle in the 'standard' scenario for the Hubble sequence. This mechanism also explains why visible parts of the ellipticals have little angular momentum. The main idea is to introduce a self-interacting light boson with m ≡ 10-14eV as a major component of dark matter. The authors consider the quantum aspect of dark matter and the role of angular momentum. To explain the origin of the particle, they suggest a series of late-time phase transitions.
