This paper examines a new scheme for the testing of transparent objects
by the schlieren method, making it possible to arrive at a quantitative
estimate of the deflection angle of rays in optical inhomogeneities. The
proposed scheme is certified for testing for optical inhomogeneities in
glass substrates.
