The Hartmann test is a procedure, based on geometric optics, that is used for the testing of parabolic mirrors of telescopes. The test involves covering the mirror with a screen with regularly spaced holes and placing a photographic plate near the focus. The principles of the classical Hartmann test are examined and a particular numerical example is considered: that of a 52-cm mirror.
