The spatial azimuthal structure of the plasmasphere as seen by the extreme ultraviolet (EUV) imager on the IMAGE satellite is studied by way of Fourier analysis of the azimuthal brightness profiles extracted from successive snapshot images during selected IMAGE passes. This allows us to identify the characteristic wavelengths of the azimuthal structure of the plasmasphere and estimate how the smaller wavelength features evolve with respect to convection enhancements. In addition to providing quantitative details on the structure of the plasmapause, the study also gives an indication of the density structure internal to the plasmasphere.
