Experimental results of Q due to pulse-broadening measurements on compressional waves in laboratory samples of lossy media like polymers and rocks are presented. The application of the method is found suitable for the study of rock samples subjected to hydrostatic pressure. The results of the present work are well within the limiting values of Q of such materials reported in handbooks. A three-to-four-fold increase in the Q-values of rocks is observed due to the application of hydrostatic fluid pressures of up to 5 kilobars.
